NP Brijuni & gourmet experience of Istrian cuisine - day trip

Brijuni Islands are a unique combination of natural assets and cultural- historic heritage.

Brijuni Islands are an archipelago consisting of two large and twelve smaller islands near Pula. The Islands used to be former president Tito’s residence and were closed to the public until the 1980s. After his death Brijuni was declared a National park in 1983 and opened to the public. Nowadays, part of the main island Veli Brijun is still closed to the public as it remains the residential area of the President of Croatia. The fact that it was visited by the elite Austrian, Hungarian and German aristocracy when Istria was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire attests to its beauty and charm.

The rich Mediterranean flora and fauna will fascinate you in the NP Brijuni. You will enjoy a walk through a Mediterranean forest and macchia, landscape parks, meadows and a Mediterranean garden.

This specific and unique area offers visitors the opportunity of encountering deer, squirrels, rabbits or representatives of Brijuni´s rich ornithofauna in just one short walk. In addition, there are also exotic species that bear witness to the interesting history of Brijuni.

The rich cultural and historical heritage of Brijuni also tells us about the history of the island. Over four millennia elapsed from the establishment of the first prehistoric settlement to the creation of a fashionable summer and health resort at the beginning of the twentieth century and the presidential residence.

We have given you enough reasons to visit this amazing National Park!
